Do you ever wonder what to do with all those plastic plates after all your guests have gone home and you have cleaned up, but there is a big pile of them sitting on the counter? Well, don't throw them away. You have a treasure trove of craft supplies just waiting to be transformed into some little thing that a child, or animal, will love.
Believe it or not, disposable Plastic Plate can be lots of fun to play with. There is the ever-popular Frisbee type of toy. They do work, by the way. Take some outside and just give them a whirl. If you forgot to bring your Frisbee to the picnic, just use plates instead. Have a few in your trunk to use anytime. They work great for animals, too. Especially for dogs. Dogs love to play catch with any old object, and you can use these in place of your Frisbee. It will be a good exercise for them.
Also, they can be used to make a super bird feeder. Bore three holes around the outer circle of the plate. Thread some string into each one of the holes, and then attach them together at the top. Be sure to make the string at least 12"-14" long. Then, add some bird seed to the plate. You can make a bird feeder that is a little more complex if you have more than one size of plate. You will need a small tube, two sizes of plates, and some string. Use the smaller plate on the bottom, the tube in the middle to hold the bird seed and the large plate on the top for a roosting spot. Hang the plate on a branch and pretty soon you will have birds making your trees a favorite place to be.
What’s more, using them as masks for kids is also a good idea. Cut eye holes out of the middle, and staple a string on the sides that will go around the child's head. Cut out a mouth hole too, and then add felt ears or nose and whiskers. They will have lots of fun pretending to be their favorite animal. They may last a little longer than the paper ones that they usually have, you never know.
Well, for more practical purpose, you can use them to sort beads or screws. What a great job for a bored kid to do. Pull out all those mixed up screws from the toolbox and sit them down and have them sort the screws onto the plates. You'll get two things done at once, keep a child from being bored, and get your house organized.
All in all, plastic plates can really be a benefit in some very unexpected ways. Don't throw them out, just use them up.
